Patent for an invention in Pakistan is grant of exclusive rights to make, use and sell the invention for a limited period of 20 years. The grant of patent by the government in favour of the inventor excludes and stops others from making, using, or selling the invention without the permission and authorization of the patentee or the patent owner. Patent protection in Pakistan starts only after the patent has been approved. A patent cannot be obtained on a mere idea or suggestion. For a valid patent there must be an invention capable of industrial application.
